Osoosi in the Yoruba tradition is the god of hunting. He is the brother of Ogun who doubles as a patron-god of hunters. Osoosi is also the patron-god of all hunters and his choice of abode is the forest.
This sculptural representation of the deity, Osoosi, is that of a man armed with a bow and a arrow with its pointed edge. Also on the moderately stout frame of the human figure is a sleeveless top decorated with cowry shells. The decorated top is worn on knickers.
The cowry shells suggest magical prowess; the shells together with the bow, the arrow, and the headlamp suggest the ever-combativeness of hunters in traditional Yoruba society.
Osoosi has a close tie with Obatala. In Ile-Ife, there is a spot for the worship of Osoosi within the temple of Obatala in Igbo-Itapa area of Ile-Ife.
