Wariwarun is a servant of Sopona, the deity of small pox, measles and life-threatening boils. The deity represented with the sculpture is usually appeased by the priests of Obaluaye as well as priests of deities that stand in the positions of servants to Obaluaye. Wariwarun protects children against illnesses when duly appeased and such illnesses can also be caused to afflict them if the deity is invoked for such a reason.
