This figure of Esu Onikaka is from Igbajo about 35miles North East of Ife. The remnant of sacrifices and offerings and such iconographic features as a crested coiffure and a club suggest it is associated with Esu Onikaka.

Lineages in Yoruba land have common progenitors and the cord connecting each individual is encoded in the ancient tradition of her/his lineage and this in turn serves as the identity of the lineage. Esu Onikaka protects the lineage/compound/family that hosts it against spiritual attacks and any form of enemies.

Esu Onikaka can also be invoked as part of war strategy or other purposes as may be required by an individual who consults it or devotee of the deity. Heavily adorned with blades and other danger-signaling objects, the image is that of deity otherwise known as Nkisi Nkodu in some other part of West Africa whose original home dating back to thousands of years ago was Ile-Ife.
