Osun is a primeval goddess, the only female among the sixteen principal deities that descended from heaven onto the terrestrial plane in Ife. The other deities inadvertently isolated her because she was a female and went on doing things without involving her.
However, it became difficult for them to accomplish their mission. Out of frustration, they consulted Olodumare through Ifa. Then they were mandated to go back and include her in all their undertakings as she was the centerpiece of the pantheon of the deities.
Osun is a very jealous deity who does not accommodate rivals. She takes pleasure in riches, beauty and ornaments. She is the patroness of indigo making. As a human being, she produced and sold indigo to people. She was a beauty enthusiast who made hairdo for females.
