The Ado Ijamo is a traditional flask or medicine-container which was used by traditional medical practitioners such as babalowo, onisegun and other related professionals to store a range of medicinal solutions and some other products before the advent of glass and plastic bottles and other forms of modern containers. Ebu (powdery solution), agbo (herbal concussion) and ero (tranquilizer) among others are stored for safekeeping and movement of useful materials as the bearer travels from place to place.
Made of leather from different animal skins that have been processed, it is an essential container needed for the task of war by any warrior. It is still in use till today though not as popular as in times past. It is much preferred to a calabash or a gourd because of its ability to hold its contents at moderate temperature levels for days. It has been largely replaced by modern storage devices in recent times.
